SEEKING FAN RECOLLECTIONS for The Beatles Please Please Me to With The Beatles

Bruce is continuing work on his upcoming book The Beatles Please Please Me to With The Beatles, the next installment in his Beatles Album Series. The book covers the albums Please Please Me and With The Beatles, and their associated singles, and the American albums Introducing The Beatles and Meet The Beatles! In addition to the usual chapters on the British, American and Canadian perspectives, the book contains chapters on the Decca audition and the EMI artists test session. There are also chapters on the recording sessions and album covers, as well as on the news, music and films of the era to place these albums in their proper context. And, of course, fan recollections.

Bruce has completed writing and editing all but two of the major chapters in the book and will soon begin the selection and editing process for the Fan Recollections. We have already received numerous stories about seeing the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show and are interested in receiving some fan recollections regarding the records. If you have not submitted a Fan Recollection yet, please consider writing about your initial reaction to hearing one or more (but not all) of the following records:

  • the “Love Me Do” single (1962 and 1963 only);
  • the “Please Please Me” single;
  • the “From Me To You” single;
  • the “She Loves You” single;
  • the “I Want To Hold Your Hand” single;
  • the Please Please Me album;
  • the With The Beatles album;
  • the Introducing The Beatles album;
  • the Meet The Beatles! album;

Bruce is not looking for an analysis about these great albums and singles, but rather your reactions to first experiencing them.

He is also looking for photos taken from 1962 through February 1964 of fans and these albums and singles of the era. I you have pictures of you (and your friends) with Beatles records and memorabilia taken back in 1963 and early 1964, we would love to see them. We do not have space to run contemporary pictures of fans with their Beatles items.

    Bruce, what if we have an interesting memory to share, but no photos? Do we simply leave our comments here?
