Overview

Due to the popularity of the Beatles later albums such as “Rubber Soul,” “Revolver,” “Sgt. Pepper,” “The White Album” and “Abbey Road,” the Beatles earlier albums are often sadly and wrongly neglected. The band’s initial albums such as “Please Please Me,” “With The Beatles” and “A Hard Day’s Night,” were full of great songs and exciting performances. Without these albums that fueled Beatlemania, the Beatles would not have been given the freedom in the studio to produce their future masterpieces. During their formative years, the Beatles became comfortable and creative in the studio, experimenting with new instruments and mastering recording techniques. “Help!” would bridge the first phase of Beatlemania with the group’s more mature sound that would soon be on full display. But even if the Beatles had not recorded a single note after “Help!,” the body of their musical and film work would have brought then legendary status.

These first three books in Bruce Spizer’s Beatles Album Series cover the British albums “Please Please Me” through “Help!,” along with their American and Canadian counterparts and associated singles and films. In addition to covering how these great records were received upon their release, each book places these albums in perspective with chapters on the news of the day, music, films and other relevant topics. There are also fans recollections from those who experienced the Beatles firsthand and comprehensive chapters on the innovative covers of and recording sessions for the albums. Each book contains over 200 color and original black and white images. The books measure 9" x 9" and have 272 pages.
